Summary: Collection consists of a broad range of historical documents concerning New Mexico history. Series I consists of three documents involving Father Antonio Jose Martinez of Taos, New Mexico: the 1827 will of his father Antonio Severino Martinez; a brief autobiography of Antonio Jose Martinez published in 1838; and an 1859 proclamation by Antonio Jose Martinez documenting conflicts between himself and Archbishop Jean Baptiste Lamy. Series II consists of papers of the Gonzales family of Taos, New Mexico. Most of these documents involve Capt. Francisco Gonzalez and his activities in the New Mexico volunteer militia. Also within this series is an 1853 estate inventory of Jose Ygnacio Gonzales and land conveyances in Taos County. Series III consists of a variety of materials involving issues in Taos County, especially taxation. Series IV consists of the professional papers of William J. Eaton. Includes many legal and tax documents, some of which concern the estate of Emilio Papa. Series V consists of photocopies of documents concerning New Mexico history from the the Real Audiencia de Guadalajara.

The collection consists of 6 CDs reformatted from 5 DAT recordings provided by Francisco Gonzales. These DATs included material copied from original wire recordings taken by Nelson Gonzales (Francisco's father) and DAT recordings taken by Francisco Gonzales or Enrique Lamadrid. The bulk of the collection contains Native American songs. Performers range from Gonzales and his family, to Nelson Gonzales, to large groups possibly recorded at gatherings such as the Feast of Manuel celebrated annually in Taos, NM. The recordings include vocals in the native vocable system performed by individual singers or by choruses, and dance songs. Additionally, some songs have English or Spanish words to them such as "I Love you Honey," or "Anteanoche fui a tu casa." There are also 49er Round Dance songs, and other untitled songs simply called 'llaneros,' or 'canciones,' among other mixed culture songs. Most performers are accompanied by drummers and occasionally by musicians with other native instruments. Recordings were taken either at community events such as performances and annual celebrations, or simply recorded in the Gonzales' home. The bell or shaker sounds heard on these recordings are likely from the dancers' costumes which are adorned with bells or shakers. The tribes represented are Comanche, Cree, Blood Indian, and Navajo. The collection also has Spanish folk songs or Coplas, hymns sung in English, Mariachi performances, children's songs sung by the Gonzales children, speeches by "Queen" contestants in the Española Valley, NM, and stories told in Native American languages. Additionally there are radio PSAs for Francisco 'El Comanche' Gonzales during his political career.
