Commonplace-book kept by Recompense Wadsworth from 1704-10 including college notes, kept as a member of the Harvard College Class of 1708, extracts of Harvard texts on moral philosophy and metaphysics (in Latin), poetry, Biblical notes, and astronomical observations. The volume also contains diary entries kept by Thomas Robie, Wadsworth's classmate, from 30 Nov. 1721 - 31 Oct. 1722, of inoculations given by him for smallpox during the Boston smallpox controversy. The entries note inoculations in Cambridge and follow-up visits to patients, including those on Spectacle Island (Boston) who were quarantined by town officials following their inoculations. Also, a few other misc. notes, probably by Robie.

Title: Commonplace-book, 1711-1727.

Commonplace-book kept by Thomas Robie, Harvard tutor and later a physician, from 1711-19. The entries are chiefly medical, noting recipes, catalogs of diseases and their treatments, and extensive notes on common maladies, including smallpox. Other entries include notes on astronomy with astronomical observations (1714-17), history, physics, predestination, and weather.

Robie, Thomas, 1689-1729. Diary, 1710.

Title: Diary, 1710.

The interleaved almanac diary contains line-a-day entries for February through May, August, and September 1710. Robie then resided in Sandwich, Mass., with Samuel Prince (1649/50-1728), father of the Rev. Thomas Prince (1687-1758), who was in Europe at that time. Robie also resided later with Major Basset. He noted activities, which included visits made and visitors received, letters received, and a few astronomical observations. The almanac leaves indicate changes used for his 1711 almanac. Filed with the volume are notes and a typescript of the diary prepared by the Sandwich Archives and Historical Center.
