Ackerley, Ruth Pitter, "My Kind of Poetry," "Auden at Sixty," George Orwell, A.E. Housman, and F.R. Leavis.

Title: Roy Campbell and Mary Campbell letters, ca. 1927-1965.

The collection consists of thirteen items, including seven letters, a manuscript review, a note written on an envelope, and an inscribed copy of the journal The Catacomb. The letters include: to Edgell Rickword, ca. 1927, lauding Rickword's poems, and commenting on an unpublished article Campbell had written under a pseudonym to unsettle a critic of his poems; five letters and a postal card to Brian Hill, 1949-1952, three signed by Mary Campbell, mentioning Hill's translation of Rimbaud, business dealings, and activities. Includes several envelopes addressed to Hill. Also, ms. review of five slender volumes of poetry, by diverse artists, undated, with corrections, the review being full of praise; an envelope with an unsigned note, describing how he lost the missing address; copy of The Catacomb, July 1949, including the poem Drunken boat by Campbell, inscribed on the front cover from Campbell to Hill.

Correspondence includes letters to, from, andabout various authors, journalists, lawyers, and booksellers, among others.There is extensive correspondence concerning the publication of Jack ButlerYeats's book Sligo (1930), the sales of Nancy Cunard's book Negro Anthology(1934), and the libel case regarding Gerard Kersh's book Jews Without Jehovah(1934). Business and financial records include estimates from printers andbinders, sales figures, royalty statements, stocktaking records, loandocuments, minutes of director's meetings, and reader's reports. Also presentis material documenting the company's involvement in the Publishers'Association of Great Britain and Ireland and its collaborations with the LeftBook Club and Workers' Bookshop, as well as original cover artwork for SeveralOccasions by Mary Butts, among other books.

Eric W. White edited a Christmas 1966 supplement of poems for the Poetry Book Society (London) in memory of John Hayward. White notes, "In choosing the poems for this Supplement I have gone partly to poets he knew and liked, and partly to new poets who at the time of his death in 1965 had not yet had a chance of making their name." The collection contains correspondence with twelve British poets, their submission, proofs with corrections, and the final printed publication. The poets and their poem include W.H. Auden ("River profile"), George Barker ("The Clock is banging"), Jack Clemo ("Carmel"), Harry Fainlight ("Wolstonbury"), David Jones ("A, a, a, domine deus"), Richard Murphy ("Military history"), Norman Nicholson ("Have you been to London?"), Brian Patten ("Little Johnny's letter home"), Tom Pickard ("The Game bird"), Edgell Rickword ("On choosing a Christmas card for a close friend"), Vernon Watkins ("The Measure moves"), and Sheila Wingfield ("The Possibility").
