Letters to Rev. Benjamin Colman, Congregationalist and first minister of the Brattle Street Church in Boston, Mass. (also known as the Church in Brattle Square), including letters of thanks, letters asking for advice and assistance, and correspondence about theological issues and church matters, such as Dissenters and Separatists. The collection contains a letter from Calvin Galpine about politics in England and church controversies, 1719; a letter from Samuel Cooper accepting the appointment as Colman's successor at Brattle Street Church, 1745; and letters from London publisher and bookseller John Oswald about various religious publications, the preaching of George Whitefield, the capture of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia during King George's War, the victory of the Duke of Cumberland at the Battle of Culloden, and other matters. Additional correspondents include Joseph Park, Gov. William Shirley, William Shurtleff, William Smith, Henry Winder, and Timothy Woodbridge.
