These two handwritten copies of drafts of partial letters were written by the same hand and at one time bound in separate letter books. Both the writer(s) and the recipient(s) of the original letters are unknown. The first draft, dated 1795, is about art and the picturesque philosophy of William Gilpin (1724-1804). The second draft describes visits to Mongewell Park House in Oxfordshire, England and Needwood Forest in Staffordshire, England.

Manuscript copy of Gilpin's Remarks on forest scenery (London, 1791) by Thomas Pattenden. Includes 12 oval watercolor or ink-wash drawings and one double-page watercolor map, copied from Gilpin's originals. A later owner of the manuscript has made further relevant additions. William Neales, who signed and dated the front pastedown (13 January 1820) has copied six and a half pages of descriptive matter on trees from William Withering's A botanical arrangement of all the vegetables naturally growing in Great Britain.
