The journals are a record of the types of letters written by the various Governors to such officials as James Madison, President of the United States; W.C.C. Claiborne, commissioner to take possession of Louisiana and in 1812 Governor of Louisiana; officers of the Militia of the Mississippi Territory; Judge Harry Toulmin; Silas Dinsmoor, United States Agent to the Choctaw Nation; the United States Secretary of War; and other territorial and federal officials. The bulk of the records are from Governor David Holmes.
