The Abe Lerner Papers reflect his wide interest and knowledge of the graphic arts of the twentieth century as reflected in his correspondence with book and type designers, printers and publishers, and editors in the United States and Europe. The correspondence files contain drafts of some of the letters he sent as well as those received. In addition to correspondence there are some files of the texts of talks he delivered and designs for book jackets and for printed ephemera. The Joseph Blumenthal Papers contain personal and professional correspondence, research files, photographs, and personal papers documenting the life and career of the American printer, printing historian, and type designer Joseph Blumenthal, and his wife Ann White Blumenthal. Included are personal correspondence with friends and colleagues in America and Europe, letters regarding his Emerson typeface, research files on the book designer Bruce Rogers, including copies of letters Rogers wrote to Henry Bullen, Crosby Gaige, Porter Garnett, George Macy, Carl Rollins, among others, as well as Blumenthal's correspondence with his publisher W. Thomas Taylor. Personal papers include portraits of the Blumenthals made by noted photographers, their passports and visa, and other records. While the material here does cover some aspects of Blumenthal's professional activities, there are no business or financial records present for the Spiral Press.
