Disparate material relating to the family of Fanny E. Van Zile, a Crandon, Wisconsin resident who was an active with the Grand Army of the Republic and Women's Relief Corps. Manuscripts consist of a brief biography of Van Zile, a family tree, and program for the Women's Relief Corps Annual Aides' Breakfast. Also included are copies of the service records for Hiram Esty, an uncle of Van Zile who fought in the Civil War with the 20th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and copies of the census records for Curtis Esty, another uncle who served with the 14th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment during the Civil War. Of particular interest is a photograph of seven Civil War and Spanish American War veterans sitting on the porch of a building with members of the WRC standing around them holding American flags.

Copy of a diary of a Union soldier while a prisoner at Andersonville, Ga., and Florence, S.C., in which he comments on living conditions, food rations, attempted escapes, and fellow prisoners, including men from the 14th Regiment of New York Heavy Artillery.

Chamberlain family. Papers, 1860-1890 1861-1865.

Title: Papers, 1860-1890 1861-1865.

These papers consist chiefly of letters sent to William Chamberlain from various members of his immediate family, including his brother, Orlando Chamberlain, who served in the army during the Civil War. These letters generally state where he was camped and often give some details about the combat action. Orlando Chamberlain served first in Company E of the 34th New York Infantry, and later in Battery K of the 14th New York Artillery. The collection also includes letters of various family members written after the Civil War, dealing with family and personal matters, and with the sale of crops, timber or land. In addition to the correspondence, there are a limited amount of other papers, including one military pass granted to William, valentines sent to William, and a few financial records such as an assessment of land lots and an invoice for Sunday school supplies.
