The collection contains a letter, 1849, William Barret, Richmond, Va., to Pendleton, arranging for payment of "Nelson's" school board and tuition, discussing the ill-health of two of his slaves, and thanks Pendleton for help on several business matters. Another letter, 1850, written by William Sharp for Barret, gives Pendleton a statement of the cost and charges of a pianoforte. There is also a letter, 1853, from John Vowles, Charlottesville, Va., sending two refunding bonds and asking if Pendleton has any funds to pay over to Thomas N. Trice.

The collection contains reports from, December 2 and 21, 1833, and May 1834, on student violations of early rising rules, student deposits and deposit delinquencies with the patron, and student neglect of uniforms. A letter from student David C. Winfree, 1833 January 5, explains how a foot ailment has prevented his return to college. The collection also contains three letters from Pendleton to Faculty chairman Charles Bonnycastle, 1834 January 27, April 15, and May 31 concerning students who visited Keller's confectionary, attended a ball, and failed to deposit boarding fees with the Patron; an investigation of complaints about the food at Hotels A and D; and, daily room cleaning, and the enrolling of "able bodied male servants" in a fire engine company. The collection also contains a letter, 1848 June 15, J.W. McCulloh to Gessner Harrison concerning the qualifications of his son for position of the chair of Natural Philosophy. A letter from George F. Holmes, 1867 September 5, to Col. William E. Peters notes briefly decisions made at a meeting of the Board of Visitors including the establishment of a Jefferson gold medal for the best M.A. candidate and the hiring of J.W. Mallet and James F. Harrison who have had Confederate service.

Pendleton, William Henry K. Papers, 1808-1927.

Title: Papers, 1808-1927.

Collection consists mostly of letters addressed to Pendleton by his mother, Henrietta Pendleton (Mrs. W. H.) of Bedford County, Va., and Elizabeth Forrer Chapman before and after she became his wife. Correspondence is mostly about personal interests, family, and friends. There is a letter from Gen. George W. C. Lee stating that he will pay for the improvement on a particular church. A letter by Newton D. Baker, whom the Rev. Pendleton had taught at the Mt. Welcome High School in Culpeper County, is very revealing about the influence of a friend on Baker's development.
