Recalls their disappointement at seeing King Louis Philippe in soiled court dress and droll looking wig accidentally on one side. All her letters were destroyed in the burning of Richmond, Virginia, but she sends an autographaph as requested from her remaining treasures.

Dixon family. Dixon family papers, 1845-1895.

Two notebooks, some newspapers, and an assortment of correspondence sent to members of the Dixon family. One notebook is a journal kept by Elizabeth Dixon while living in Washington, DC, as her husband, James Dixon, served in the 29th Congress. The other notebook is a commonplace book filled with politically related news clippings. Many of the clippings pertain to James Dixon. There are several copies of the Supplement to the Courant, the front page of the Connecticut Courant (Jan. 2, 1858), and a copy of the Army and Navy Journal (Oct. 24, 1868). The family correspondence contains a variety of letters and invitations.

Dixon-Welling family. Dixon-Welling correspondence, 1843-1887

A collection of correspondence sent to James Dixon, James C. Welling, and Mrs. James Dixon. James Dixon served in the United States Senate from Connecticut. One letter gave permission for Dixon to pass through United States troop lines during the Civil War. Among those writing to him were Horace Greeley and Gideon Welles. Welling received several letters from Charles Sumner. A letter was sent to Mrs. Dixon by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Also in the collection is a letter written in French, by the King's secretary, to Madame Sigourney.
