William Greenleaf Eliot, Jr. served as minister of the First Unitarian Church in Portland, Oregon from 1906 until his retirement in 1934. His father, Thomas Lamb Eliot, held the same post from 1867 to 1893. Prior to his tenure in Portland, W.G. Eliot, Jr. held ministerial appointments in Seattle, San Francisco, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

William Greenelaf Eliot Jr. (named for his grandfather) was born in 1866 in St. Louis, Missouri, to T.L. Eliot and Henrietta Mack Eliot. W.G. Eliot Jr. served as a Unitarian minister in Seattle from 1891 to 1894, when he was ordained in San Francisco and also married Minna Charlotte Sessinghaus. For the next two years he was minister in San Francisco before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for five years, also as a minister. In 1901, Eliot moved to Portland, Oregon as the State Superintendent for the American Unitarian Association in the Pacific Northwest. In 1906, he became minister of what is now the First Unitarian Church. He retired in 1934. He had four children and continued his activities in civic, educational, and religious areas during his retirement. He died in Portland in 1956.
