Minor, Stephen, 1760?-1815. Minor family papers, 1774-1914 (bulk 1774-1891).

Minor family correspondence contains letters to Stephen Minor including one written by Thomas Power, captain of the militia at New Orleans, discussing the Burr conspiracy (1807) and letters (1814) from William Kenner of New Orleans and Simon Gratz of Philadelphia. Correspondence of William J. Minor includes letters (1829, 1837) from John Minor and his mother, Katherine Minor, discussing plantation affairs and personal matters; a letter (1849) from Loyal Case of New Orleans offering to purchase an interest in Ship Island; and a letter (1865) from William J. Minor to his son, Henry Chotard Minor of Southdown Plantation. A letter (1774) from H. Beaumont of Montreal, to Bernard Lintot in Connecticut concerns an account of Beaumont, the shipment of items, and family matters. Born in Connecticut, Lintot was an early settler and merchant of Natchez. The collection contains documents in Spanish confirming land titles for property in Natchez, some signed by Baron de Carondelet; memoranda; a sugar producer's license (1891) of Henry C. Minor of Houma, Terrebonne Parish; a will (1862) of Mary Ann Gustine of Queens County, New York; and a prayer for expectant mothers. Copies of reports (1913-1914) from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Experiment Station, are included. Printed items include a copy of "Message from the President of the United States to the House of Representatives" (1797) signed by John Adams, and a pamphlet (1859) of a union meeting in Faneuil Hall, Boston.

Manuscript poetical miscellany composed around 1709-1712, and containing works by Watts, Marvell, Waller, Milton, and Prior, among others. The text throughout is written in a very neat hand, and nearly every poem is captioned with information about its source. The Tatler and Bernard Lintott's 1712 Miscellaneous poems and translations are cited several times for the text excerpted within this manuscript.
