An assortment of manuscripts from various locations within the State of Connecticut collected by E. Hallenbeck. When possible, documents were organized by family name or the name of an individual, or a town. In the general correspondence is a letter by Gurdon Saltonstall, letters to Capt. Noah Scovell, an 1806 letter about the Masons, and a letter from Daniel Galpin to Secretary of War John C. Calhoun about a pension. Hiram Cobb of Windsor, Connecticut, was appointed enrolling agent in 1863, and his papers include the appointment, some correspondence, and a list of men who provided substitutes for their military service, 1863. David Drake bought and sold land in Windsor and he is represented in the collection by deeds, 1783-1813, and a bill, 1805. John Fitch received letters dated 1808-1836. The Potter family, most particularly Henry, of Waterford,bought and sold land and entered into agreements, 1819-1837, and received a letter addressed to him as the state representative for Waterford, 1830. Isaac and Cyrus Williams of Stonington, are represented by letters, 1805-1834, deeds, a lease, and other legal documents, 1786-1834. Also in this collection are the founding documents of the Temperance Society of Durham, 1828-1840; records of the Glastonbury schools, 1830-1831; and records of the North Stonington Ecclesiastical Society, 1847-1857. Poems, receipts, a Hartford tax list and the signature of Lydia Huntley Sigourney are in a folder of assorted documents, 1652-1857. Other materials found in this collection are deeds, 1737-1851; militia orders, certificates of disability, a return, and a muster roll, 1775-1842; records of the American Education Society of North Stonington, the Durham library, and the Young Men's Debating Society of Poquonus, 1833, undated; reports, petitions and taxes for highways and turnpikes, 1803-1829; and writs, 1735-1841.
