The nine letters to Betty Cocke mostly pertain to family and personal matters. Topics include his cordial reception by people from the North; voting for Taft, not Wilson; remembrances of a temperance celebration at Bremo; Wilson not appearing as University of Virginia commencement speaker; and Confederate reunions and other social events. A letter, 1910, to Col. E. Leroy Sweetser discusses Mosby's dismissal from the Department of Justice in punishment "for having three scoundrels indicted for robbing the Indians." A letter, 1911, to Louise Cocke concerns his shooting of George Turpin at the University of Virginia. Also included are miscellaneous items, including: an advertisement for a book of Civil War photographs with sample photographs of Colonel Mosby and Brigadier General Orlando Bolivar Willcox, U.S.A.; a clipping from a 1911 January 15 Baltimore Sun describing Mosby's shooting of Turpin; and autographed photographs including his grandsons Sptoswood and Mosby Campbell.

The collection consists chiefly of letters to Betty Cocke mentioning briefly his dismissal from the Justice Dept.; speaking engagements; his youth, the University of Virginia, and the Civil War; mutual acquaintances; death of his son from throat cancer; health and hospitalizations; and Woodrow Wilson. The collection also contains a letter to Thomas Pinckney Bryan elaborating on his letter to Eppa Hunton proposing the abolition of football at the University of Virginia following the death of Archer Christian in a game against Georgetown. There is also a letter from Percy Cross Standing requesting a signed photograph and biographical information for his book on famous guerilla leaders. There is also a clipping from a New Haven paper, 1910, containing a letter from a former member of the 16th New York Cavalry to Mosby and his reply. Also included are miscellaneous items, including clippings, a magazine photo and a copy of an address by President Taft to the United Daughters of the Confederacy signed by Mosby.
