Manuscript, in multiple hands, of memoranda and letters regarding Ashby's antiquarian research on Suffolk history. The collection contains several materials on the Scott family, including a genealogical tree of Thomas Scott, "a dissenting minister at Harwich," dated 1779; and a letter from Edward Mills to Ashby dated 1799 which gives a brief biography of Peter Frere of Wickham Abbey in the parish of Wickham Sheyth and mentions John and Daniel Scott, annotated by Ashby with memoranda on whether Daniel or John Scott was an atheist, and mentioning other members of the Scott family. The collection also includes a list of interview questions, with their answers, dated July 1799, from Ashby to "Mrs. Canham" investigating the case of Joseph Scott of Felsham, who was said to have had a ghostly premonition of the time and place of his death; a journal entry describing Ashby's conversation with Edward Mills on the Joseph Scott case; notes on the Colmore family; and several documents on land tenure laws.

The 34 items in this collection date from approximately 1749 to 1835, and contain letters from a wide variety of booksellers, printers, authors, readers, clergymen, foreign dignitaries and antiquaries. Many letters concern ordering books from printers and booksellers, while other letters concern payments due to authors and discussions of books. Some letters bear Phillipps' manuscript catalog numbers. Many also still bear seals and postmarks.

Subjects include descriptions of Niagara Falls, the Swiss Alps, and a natural icehouse; the funeral of George II and the coronation and marriage ceremonies of George III; various historical sites in Ireland and several English cathedrals; and the origins of current English words and phrases such as "macaroni," "whist," and "at death's door." Alphabetical index of topics in Ashby's hand at the end of the volume; some entries annotated with source information in another hand.

Manuscripts, in two main hands, of a collection of documents and drawings related to Suffolk, with related letters laid in. The first volume contains a transcription by Ashby of Ives' Collectanea Lothinglandiana, followed by his transcription of Thomas Martin of Palgram's church notes on Suffolk parishes, which consist of epitaphs, family histories, and sketches of coats of arms and churches, as well as wills, Parliamentary acts, brief biographies of notable persons, and extracts from birth and death registers. The volumes are arranged alphabetically by parish, the first volume covering Aldborough to Reydone, and the second volume from Rickinghall to Wyverstone. The second volume also contains a transcript of a history of Bury St. Edmunds by Sir James Burrough; an index to both volumes as well as important works on Suffolk history cited through out the volumes ; and a transcript of Edward Jones' Several articles that concern Suffolk extracted from index to originalia & memoranda. Bound in at the beginning of volume 2 is a series of letters and extracts from various texts copied by John Ives on such topics as the antiquity of churches; "draught of a Letter to Duke of Norfolk"; "Extract taken from the Register Book of the Parish Church of Horton near Oxford"; and an extract from Pope's Genius of writings.
