Handwritten and signed letter, dated 21 Sept. 1849, and addressed to N.F. More, possibly Nathaniel Fish More (1782-1872). Anthon expresses an opinion of a few lines of Latin poetry which are copied onto the letter. Also included is a newspaper clipping of a brief biography of Anthon and an engraved portrait of him.

The collection is composed of notes on classical authors made by Professor Anthon. There are three bound volumes: 1)notes on Latin authors, ca. 250 leaves; 2) commentary on seven plays by Euripides, ca. 260 leaves; and 3) lecture notes, ca. 140 leaves. Each leaf is closely written in a minute but clear 19th century hand. In addition there are several short manuscripts and one letter to Joseph Green Cogswell. Also included are some printed books written by Anthon and various classical editions with his commentaries.

Twenty-seven letters from Barker to Professor Charles Anthon (1797-1867) of the Classics Department of Columbia College and one letter to a Mr Blackwell. The letters were written between July of 1827 and September of 1831 and relate principally to Professor Anthon's work on a new edition of Lemprière's Classical Dictionary. The letters are all in a clear 19th-century hand.

Autographs, correspondence, portraits, and envelopes. Most of the materials were donated by Fred Rosenstock to Brigham Young University, but some were acquired from different sources. Many of the items were originally gathered by Barton Orville Aylesworth, a biographer and an autograph collector in Fort Collins, Colorado. Contains autographs, correspondence, portraits, and envelopes. The materials are largely letters and autographs produced by prominent American and British authors, editors, politicians, and other important artistic and historical figures in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The items relating to the individual creators are being cataloged separately and will be available on the Brigham Young University cataloging data base. BYU special collections created this artificial collection placing the material in alphabetical order.
