The collection contains an account book of general merchandise of Hudson Martin and Co., Albemarle County, Va., which lists accounts with John Jouett, Sr., John Jouett, Jr., George Gilmer, Thomas Walker, Jr., Philip Mazzei, Hastings Marks, John Harvie and others including Virginia troops. The ledger also contains Martin's business proceedings as deputy clerk for Albemarle County including commonwealth taxes collected, stray livestock registered, and marriages recorded. There is also a daily record of the weather in January 1881. With the account book are a small group of miscellaneous business and legal papers, ca. 1880-1898, pertaining to a Hudson Martin who was a justice of the peace for Nelson County. With these is a letter to the editor regarding public roads in Nelson County.
