An early manuscript version of Sir John Doddridge's treatise on nobility, first published in 1642. While it is unclear if this is Doddridge's original manuscript, as a later ownership inscription asserts, this volume most likely issues from the 1640's or earlier, as it is much closer to the 1642 publication than it is to a later edition in 1658. Following Doddridge's text is a section composed much later, perhaps by a family member of former owner Sir Robert Chambers, which contains drawings, watercolors or pasted in engravings, plus descriptions, of the arms of various English families. These are arranged alphabetically by family, with index tabs for the 26 letter alphabet.
