Wells, for a Boarding School for Young Gentlemen at Cambridge, Mass., in 1827.

Holley Family. Holley family papers, 1747-1914.

Title: Holley family papers, 1747-1914.

The collection consists of a variety of papers created by various members of the Holley family of Salisbury, Connecticut. Other family names common to the collection (particularly through marriage) include Rudd, Lyman, Robbins, and Day. Most of the papers (3.5 linear feet) are arranged chronologically. The remainder, mostly undated, are sorted by topic. Included are a variety of writings, mostly unsigned. There are also many bills and receipts, some having to do with Holley and Coffing Merchants and Iron Manufacturers, and others related to family travels. Among the more prominent correspondents are Alexander Lyman Holley, his father, Alexander Hamilton Holley, and two of A.H. Holley's three wives, Marcia Coffing Holley and Sarah Day Holley. A.H. Holley served as both Lieutenant Governor (1854-1855) and Governor (1857-1858) of the State of Connecticut. A collection of journals includes one from Maria Holley Rudd's time at Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Conn., three kept by A.H. Holley, and coal account books (1808-1831) of A.H.'s father, John Milton Holley. A document within the topically sorted material lists the property Sarah Day brought with her to her marriage in 1856.
