Subjects of these personal papers include legal affairs, family and personal life, railroads, education, local government, business affairs, land transactions, western lands and settlement, and political matters such as campaigns, elections, the Albany Regency, slavery, legislative business, and appointments. Other notable segments include account books, receipts, maps, surveys, minutes, letters, and legal papers concerning the Drowned Lands, 1807-1850; transcript of the divorce trial of Martha Ellis vs. Levi Ellis, 1837; maps, deeds, agreements, accounts, letters, and legal papers concerning military bounty lands in Orange County, 1791-1838; and Civil War letters and military documents of Alfred Neafie, 1864-1865.

Minutes of the proceedings of the Commissioners Appointed to Settle the Boundaries between the Patents of Kakiate and Cheesecocks in Orange County, New York, 1771 Jan.-1771 Sep. The commissioners were William Nicoll, George D. Ludlow, Benjamin Kissam, Thomas Hicks, and Samuel Jones. Cheesecocks was represented by William Smith, and Kakiate by William Wickham and John De Noyellis. The first meeting of the commissioners was held at Richard Bolton's tavern in New York, with later minutes held there and elswhere. Numerous witnesses examined by the commissioners are named and items of documentary evidence, along with information relevant to the dispute, is reviewed and recorded.

On the front cover of the volume is written "Journal begun August 1759". On the back cover of the volume is written "Journal and Agenda begun August 1759".

Harison, Richard. Letterbooks and catalog, 1790-1835.

Title: Letterbooks and catalog, 1790-1835.

Four letterbooks belonging to Harison and a catalog of his library (1790-1835). Letterbook for 1790-1800 contains mostly copies of letters to Cabinet members and other government officials with reference to his work as U.S. attorney for the district of N.Y., giving and seeking opinions on legal problems of the new federal government. The remaining volumes consist mostly of matters relating to his own and his clients' land holdings and also correspondence from his work as a private attorney. After Harison's death in 1829, the last letterbook was used by the executors and trustees of his estate, primarily his son William H. Harison. The library catalog (ca. 1796) gives the name of the book, author, number of volumes, and size, listed alphabetically.
