Correspondence, accounts of construction and vessel operation, family papers, and other materials, chiefly relating to the shipbuilding (1823-1903) and ship management business (ca. 1829-1916) of the Sewall family, but also documenting their extensive involvement in railroads, political affairs, and other enterprises in Bath and throughout the U.S. Includes personal papers of William Dunning Sewall (1797-1877), Arthur Sewall (1835-1900), Harold Marsh Sewall (1860-1924), and Sumner Sewall (1897-1965).
