The collection contains a wide range of material concerning the life and career of David Brown. There is correspondence, 1934-2006, with over 3,000 items including letters from Irving Berlin, Eddie Cantor, John Dos Passos, Dwight D. Eisenhower, J. Edgar Hoover, Estes Kefauver, Spiro Agnew, Edward R. Murrow, Richard Nixon, John O'Hara among others. Production business files, covering several decades, contain production/shooting schedules, scripts and script drafts, screenings, crew lists, research, sketches, notes and clippings, and other documentation for numerous motion picture productions such as "The Robe", "The Sugarland Express" (1974), "Jaws" (1975) and its successors, "The Island" (1980), "The Verdict" (1982), "Driving Miss Daisy" (1989), "A Few Good Men" (1992), and "The Saint" (1997). Production business files for stage productions are also included: "Sweet Smell of Success: The Musical" (2002), and "Showtune" (2003), among others. Manuscripts, notes, publisher's correspondence for Brown's books are contained including: "David Brown's Guide to Growing Gray", "Let Me Entertain You", among others. Biographical information is contained: resumes, psychological evaluation and study, and military records. There are also photographs from 1946-1990s with prominent figures such as Queen Elizabeth II and Hollywood personalities. Audio and video materials with radio and television appearances and some production material are included.

Early material includes memorabilia and writings from her youth. The bulk of the material were produced in the 1960s and provide a comprehensive picture of Brown's intertwined personal and professional lives, as editor, writer, and celebrity. The Cosmopolitan series includes correspondence, editorial files, advertising, and publicity materials. There are also speeches and scripts from her radio and television appearances. A large selection of photographs include images of celebrity friends, some by famous photographers. There is extensive correspondence from celebrities, publishers, fans, and others. Correspondents include Edward Koch, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, and Barbara Walters.

Collection comprises correspondence, research materials (printed materials, interviews, legal documents, newsletters, notes, etc.), manuscripts and galley proofs, advertising and publicity, reviews and reader responses--materials generated during the research, writing and publication of these three works. The research files contain a wealth of data on the three disparate topics: American death rituals and funeral industry; the conspiracy trial of Dr. Benjamin Spock, civil disobedience and Vietnam-era jurisprudence; and the American prison system, criminal justice and corrections. Only a small amount of personal materials (which fall within the context of Mitford's activities as author of said books) form a part of this collection. Records of the East Bay Memorial Association (1954-1962), of which Mitford's husband Robert Treuhaft was an officer, are also included in Series I.

Lehman, Ernest, 1915-2005. Papers, 1931-1990, (bulk 1954-1967).

Comprise correspondence, multiple drafts of filmscripts, and production photographs, as well as clippings, contracts, magazines and trade papers, notes, reviews, shooting and production schedules, sound recordings, storyboards, synopses, and other materials relating primarily to Lehman's film career, ca. 1931-1990. Lehman published short stories, novellas, and articles in a variety of popular magazines in the 1940s and early 50s, and was later a regular contributor to American Film magazine with his "Lehman at Large" column from 1978 to 1981, all of which are represented in the collection. The bulk of the collection relates to Lehman's career as a screenwriter and film producer. Filmscripts and other materials are present for all of Lehman's films, but North by Northwest, Portnoy's Complaint, The Prize, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? are the most extensively documented. Correspondents include actors and actresses, editors, directors, producers, and writers, such as Alfred Hitchcock, Richard Rodgers, Rod Serling, Elizabeth Taylor, Victor Weybright, and Richard Zanuck.

Correspondence, typescripts of published and unpublished material, photographs, galley proofs, speeches, printed materials, and memorabilia document Cousins' life from her high school years through her career as writer and editor. Files for her books, short stories, and articles are quite extensive (15 boxes), with most of the short stories and articles represented by both a typescript and the printed version. Includes typescripts for Lyndon Johnson's memoir, The vantage point, and Lady Bird Johnson's A White House diary, as well as two articles by Margaret Truman, all of which Cousins edited. Materials from her years at Doubleday include memoranda from other editors, minutes from editorial meetings, and correspondence with authors and literary agents. Among the personal items are correspondence with friends and associates, as well as documentation of her homes, especially her house near Dobbs Ferry, NY.
