Bulk of the collection contains Faulkner's correspondence and writings, including professional and personal correspondents. The writings, sermons, and speeches by Faulkner chronicle his broad interest in Christian and secular issues facing African Americans, such as segregation, racism, Christian love, African American folklore, current events, and death and dying. There is also a small amount of material regarding his political life while living in Cape May and Wildwood, N.J. In the Writings by Others series, there is material from numerous philosophers and Christian thinkers, many of which were used to augment sermons and for quotes and vignettes at funerals. His organizational affiliiations are represented by material regarding the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and the Sigma Pi Phi fraternity (programs and agendas). Other topics and persons represented include the Barlow family; Simon Brown (a freedman who influenced Faulkner's love for African American folktales); Ghanaian president Kwame Nkrumah, and John F. Kennedy; speaking engagements, civic activism and business transactions. Also includes photographs of trips to Europe and in the U.S. Artifacts include Faulkner's tuxedo and ministerial robe, William Faulkner, Jr.'s military uniform, grandson Larry Brown's airline steward's uniform and other material, including Dr. Faulkner's study Bible.

Correspondence, sermons, writings, photographs, printed material and miscellanea detailing the professional career and personal life of Sidney Lovett, a clergyman and chaplain at Yale University. Lovett's activities as a minister in Boston (1919-1932), chaplain at Yale (1932-1958), member of many university organizations and committees, including the Yale Faculty Committee for Receiving Oxford and Cambridge Children and Yale-in-China, pastor of the Church of Christ in Yale, master of Pierson College, community worker in New Haven, Connecticut and professor of biblical literature, are documented in the papers. General correspondence files contain letters to and from Lovett, and include exchanges with numerous religious figures in academic positions, Yale University officials and employees, and Yale students and alumni. Correspondence and other materials relating to the Yale Faculty Committee for Receiving Oxford and Cambridge Children detail the efforts of that body to transport British children to the United States during World War II. Yale-in-China files detail Lovett's role as executive vice-president of that body. Sermons include printed and manuscript versions of many of Lovett's religious addresses, from 1914-1977, and writings include various other addresses, essays, funeral services and speeches.

Title: Carleton L. Lee papers, 1931-1972.

The Carleton L. Lee Papers contain material reflecting his various positions, with files discussing aspects of his professional employment and activities. A contributor to professional, church and literary journals, his writings are also represented in the collection. For his employment with the Southern Area of the National Council of the YMCA, there are reports on interracial conferences, correspondence with officials of the YMCA, programs and other printed material, 1938-1964. Files pertaining to his work for the World Council of Churches in West Germany includes correspondence with his colleagues and family regarding his experiences, reports he and others wrote, associated printed matter and other related material. Lee held three positions at Central State College in Wilberforce, however, the correspondence does not discuss his various positions and specific activities at the college. There are minutes of the Administrative Committee on Graduate Studies, a few reports and prayers Lee wrote, and religious and commencement programs. His leadership of Black Americana Studies at Western Michigan University is represented by minutes of the Advisory Committee of this program, Lee's description of the program and course offerings, relevant brochures and other printed material. Teaching notes and student evaluations for a class he taught are also in the collection. Lee was active in several educational societies and organizations. The Professional Activities series includes numerous programs for events where Lee spoke; most are orders of services for churches where Lee was the guest pastor. Files also discuss the National Association of College and University Chaplains, for which he served as president from 1961 to 1962. Lee's writings include reprints of a few of his publications; an extensive diary covering the years 1936 to 1938 with notes on his religious activities; and sermons, addresses, eulogies, numerous poems and prayers. The last series, Subject Files, consists of printed material related to black studies departments forming on college campuses in the early 1970's.
