Stephen Willoughby Lawley was born in 1823, the third son of Paul Beilby Lawley Thompson, 1st Baron Wenlock. He matriculated at Balliol College, Oxford, in 1841 (B.A., 1845; M.A., 1853), and was rector of Estrick, Yorkshire, 1848-1868, and sub-dean of York, 1852-1862. He died around 1901.
The Library of King's College, Cambridge, was established at the founding of the college in 1441. Its holdings today include rare books and treatises.
