Title: Ricardo and Harriet Romo Collection, 1967-1991.

This collection is comprised of newspaper clippings, a typescript, photographs, prints, and posters. Clippings relate to Latino studies and were collected by Ricardo and Harriet Romo; the typescript by UT Austin professor Ramón Saldivar, is entitled "The Dialectics of Difference: Contemporary Chicano Narrative", which was published in 1990 by the University of Wisconsin Press. Harriet Romo's collaboration with photographer Alan Pogue documenting the lives of Head Start program families in an exhibit entitled "Photographs and Fieldnotes: An Ethnographic View of Head Start Families", is represented by proof copies of brochure and exhibit panels, and photographs of César Chávez, and a collection of posters and prints, including a Malaquias Montoya lithograph of Tomás Rivera. Dates range from 1967-1991.

Personal materials include family correspondence, biographical clippings, and documentation of his career as a writer for the U.S. Army and Red Cross in Japan (1945-1950). Manuscripts for scholarly and fictional books, articles, and speeches, correspondence files, research materials and financial documents reflect Paredes' creative work as a scholar, lecturer, and author (1933-1999). Paredes' subject files include classified files relating to scholarly topics, his courses, and other professional activities, such as his editorship of the Journal of American folklore (1968-1973). Correspondence files (bulk 1953-1999) relate to many aspects of Paredes' personal and professional life. Sound records include original tapes of Paredes and others and commercially produced recordings.

Consists of correspondence, manuscripts, research papers, publications, clippings, programs, and photographs which reflect the activities and interests of Ricardo Romo from the late 1960s. Papers include drafts and typescripts of works by others, including plays and essays by Carlos Morton, drafts of books, dissertations, and reports. Many of the manuscripts reflect Romo's work as editor of the Mexican American monograph series. Photographs in the collection include many copies of yearbook pictures of early or prominent Mexican American students and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin.
