Collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, and drawings by or relating to Polish author Witold Gombrowicz. The correspondence contains letters between Gombrowicz and Betelu dating from 1958 to 1969, with approximately 109 pieces of correspondence from Gombrowicz to Betelu, dating from 1958 to 1969, and 82 pieces of correspondence from Betelu to Gombrowicz, many with drawings, dating from 1958 to 1962. In letters to Betelu, Gombrowicz discusses both literary and personal subjects, such as the publication and critical reception of his work, meetings with other writers, and trips. The letters also detail the close relationship between the two men. The manuscripts include an uncorrected typescript carbon draft of the prologue to the first volume of Gombrowicz's published diary, in Spanish, as well as draft fragments from the diary, and a corrected typescript carbon draft to an account entitled "El diario del Rio Parana." In addition, there are 13 pen and ink sketches by Betelu, all relating to Gombrowicz, dating from 1975 to 1997.

The archive consists of correspondence, writings, personal papers, photographs, audiovisual material and memorabilia documenting Gombrowicz's life and literary activity chiefly during the last two decades of his life (1949-69). Series I, Correspondence, contains personal and professional correspondence. There is correspondence with family, Polish and European literary and cultural figures, other Polish emigres, and Latin American friends and writers. There is considerable correspondence with editors and publishers, including Jerzy Giedroyc, the Polish editor of Gombrowicz's works. Other Polish correspondents include Tadeusz Breza, Zofia Chadzynska, Jozef Czapski, Maria Dabrowska, Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz, Constantin Jelenski, Tadeusz Kantor, Maria Szczepanska Kuncewiczowa, Czeslaw Milosz, Zygmunt Mycielski, Artur Sandauer, Leopold Tyrmand, Kaimierz Wierzynski, and Jozef Wittlin. Series II, Writings of Gombrowicz, consists of novels, plays, shorter works, autobiographical writings, and other writings. There are drafts and printed versions of shorter works, including stories, articles, interviews, and open letters. Series V, Writings of Others About Gombrowicz, contains articles, bibliographies, published letters, transcripts for radio broadcasts, theses and student papers, and material related to a special issue of the journal L'Herne, devoted to Gombrowicz, edited by Constantin Jelenski and Dominique de Roux. Series VI, Commemorative Works and Activities, consists of obituaries and tributes issued in the months following Gombrowicz's death, and correspondence, organizational records, and printed material from commemorative events dating from the late 1980s. Series VII, Audiovisual Materials, includes both audio recordings and moving image media. Audio recordings encompass recordings of programs about Gombrowicz and adaptations of his works for radio. Moving image media includes amateur films, documentaries about Gombrowicz, and theater and film productions of Gombrowicz's works. Series VIII and IX consist of Photographs and Personal Papers respectively. There are photograph albums of Gombrowicz for periods in Poland, Argentina, and Europe, and later photographs of theater and film productions and commemorative events. Title: Konstanty Jeleński papers 1940-1988

The papers include correspondence, writings and other material that documents Konstanty Jeleński's editorial work, literary criticism and involvement with several cultural organizations, including the Congress for Cultural Freedom, the Royaumont Foundation, and the Institut national de l'audiovisuel. A significant portion of the papers documents Jeleński's translation and criticism of the writings of Witold Gombrowicz. The Papers are not a complete literary archive of Jeleński's life and work and contain only a portion of his correspondence and writings. Series I consists chiefly of Jeleński's general correspondence, writings and writings of others; the remaining series consist of papers related to specific topics and organizations. Correspondents include Witold and Rita Gombrowicz, fellow affilates with the Congress for Cultural Freedom, and publishers. Essays and other writings relate chiefly to mid-twentieth-century Polish literary and political life (especially that of Polish émigrés), to the activities of the Congress for Cultural Freedom, and to Jeleński's translations from Polish to French. Printed material relates to literary, historical and political topics, especially in Poland in the mid- to late- twentieth century. A small amount of material relates to Jeleński's affiliation with the Royaumont Foundation and the Institut national de l'audiovisuel, documenting a portion of the activity of these organizations in the 1970s and 1980s.
