Many of the entries correspond to those in the glossary of his 1744 edition of Shakespeare's Works, some are among the additions found in the edition of 1770-1771. Certain entries are not in either edition. A pencil note opp. p. 343 states that the additional notes written in pencil were by Sir John Hawkins. Prefaced by A short account of Shakespeare from Mr. Rowe; Miscellanious observations from [J.] Upton's [Critical] Observations on Shakespeare; and the General Heads or Rules, extracted from the same book.

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a copy of a treatise on the power of the King to grant pardons. The first part of the manuscript includes a general introduction to the power of pardoning, examples of "the practice & usage of Parliament" as evidenced through parliament rolls, and the specific case of the Earl of Strafford. In the second part, the manuscript proposes and responds to "objections" on such topics as whether the King has the power to grant pardon both before and after sentencing, and whether the irregularity of the Earl of Danby's pardon renders it void. The treatise concludes by declaring, "There is therefore nothing in Law that can refrain the Kings power of pardoning either for the matter and the manner of it."
