Bill C. Malone, professor emeritus of history at Tulane University, is known for his cultural and historical studies of country music. During the spring 2000 semester, Malone served as the first Lehman Brady Chair Professor, a joint position shared between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University. The collection includes audiotapes of interviews with Bill C. Malone conducted by by David Whisnant, Henry Armijo, and Wells Tower in 2000; a videotape of a public singing lecture given by Malone at the UNC-Chapel Hill on 29 March 2000 (text copy included); and audiotapes of lectures from Malone's course on (syllabus included), which he taught at UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University in spring 2000. Guest performers/lecturers in the course included Betty Smith, Hazel Dickens, Murphy Henry, Tish Hinojosa, and Carol Elizabeth Jones. Video-taped interviews, scripts, production logs and photographs (1993-1997) in the Tara Veneruso Collection document the creation of Janis Joplin Slept Here: a Documentary on Austin Music and Culture (1994, 120 min.) featuring Richard Linklater, Joe King Carrasco, Jimmie Vaughn, Ian Moore, Tish Hinojosa, Tommy Shannon and other members of the Austin music scene. The documentary uses Janis Joplin, Texas's first female rock superstar, as a link to connect various reminiscences of Austin music and life covering the time period 1960 to 1993. In addition to the finished film, the collection includes raw footage of approximately 70 interviews, concert footage taken in Austin clubs and venues during 1993, and images of posters and mementos from the collections of local musicians. A shooting log and production notes summarize the contents of the master tapes. Research articles, original photographs and a film production book provide context for the taped interviews. In addition to the Janis Joplin materials, the collection includes footage from Veneruso's 1994 short film Oslo-Austin Week featuring Bruce Hancock, a 1997 tape of the band Omar and the Howlers, interviews with the band Brave Combo from 1996, a 1996 music video of Christine Caughey, and a 1995 music video of The Fabulous Bowler Boys.

Material reflects Paredes' work as an author and scholar, teacher, and administrator. Correspondence with wife Amelia and friends document his personal life. Personal materials include family correspondence, biographical clippings, and documentation of his career as a writer for the U.S. Army and Red Cross in Japan (1945-1950). Manuscripts for scholarly and fictional books, articles, and speeches, correspondence files, research materials and financial documents reflect Paredes' creative work as a scholar, lecturer, and author (1933-1999). Paredes' subject files include classified files relating to scholarly topics, his courses, and other professional activities, such as his editorship of the Journal of American folklore (1968-1973). Correspondence files (bulk 1953-1999) relate to many aspects of Paredes' personal and professional life. Sound records include original tapes of Paredes and others and commercially produced recordings.
