The Library's collection of study photographs and clippings contains reference photographs and clippings of art objects from a vast array of geographic locations. The collection contains photographs and clippings of sculpture, decorative arts, architecture (locations), and paintings/drawings/prints in the following geographic categories: American, British, French, German, Italian, the Low Countries, Scandinavian, Spanish, Swiss, Miscellaneous European/Western tradition, Egyptian, Ancient Civilization, Byzantine, African, Pre-Columbian American Art, Prehistoric, Near East, Far East, and Oceania. This collection began with the purchase of Willem Rudolf Juynboll's clippings collection, but was augmented in many ways and from several sources. Other major sources of material include the Duveen Collection, purchases from the Courtauld Institute, and an Alinari subscription. The collection also includes material from independent photographers and clippings from auction catalogues collected by Clark staff members.

Collection, 1945-1946, undated, includes correspondence from Milles, Cranbrook Academy of Art, to Frances G. Fitch, Central State Teachers College (CSTC), Mount Pleasant (Mich.), inviting her to visit, Nov. 17, 1945, and wishing her a speedy recovery of health, June 5, 1946. Also included are a catalog of Milles work for the J.L. Hudson Gallery exhibit, Detroit, Jan. 14-Feb. 6, 1940 , and a booklet autographed by Milles on the occassion of his 70th birthday, June 23, 1945. Both the catalog and booklet are illustrated. A resolution of respect to Prof. Fitch for 19 years of service from CSTC, Aug. 15, 1957, completes the collection.

Papers of Robert C. Koepnick (1907-1995), Dayton sculptor and long-time art instructor at the Dayton Art Institute. Koepnick is well known for his modern perspective on ecclesiastical art, and many of his works appear as architectural elements on churches and professional buildings throughout southwestern Ohio as well as around the United States. This collection includes photographs and sketches of many of his pieces, as well as correspondence related to commissioned work, scrapbooks of related articles, and memorabilia from European travel.

Title: Anne Morrow Lindbergh papers, 1906-1997 (inclusive).

The papers consist of correspondence, diaries, writings, childhood, school and college materials, housekeeping and social records, reports, memoranda and correspondence from the many organizations in which Anne Morrow Lindbergh took an active interest. Also included is voluminous mail from members of her reading public and memorabilia, both objects sent by admirers and items collected by her on her travels. The death of Charles Lindbergh in 1974 is documented by mail from friends, members of the public and organizations. Anne Morrow Lindbergh's writings make up the largest part of the papers and include her diaries (1929-1972, 1982-1988), drafts of her books, working notebooks, speeches, articles and stories and published reviews of her work. Also in the papers are printed copies of her publications. Her personal correspondence with friends and family runs over many years and includes Anne Carrell, Harry Guggenheim, Corliss Lamont, Harold and Nigel Nicholson, Vita Sackville-West, Igor Sikorsky, Truman and Katherine Smith, Helen and Kurt Wolff, Jean Stafford and Mary Ellen Chase. Her family correspondence contains letters exchanged by Anne Morrow Lindbergh and members of her immediate family as well as members of the Morrow, Lindbergh and Cutter families.

Janet deCoux papers

Title: Janet deCoux papers

The papers of sculptor Janet deCoux measure 3.92 linear feet and date from 1895 to 2000. Found within the papers are scattered biographical material, including curriculum vitae and a file concerning deCoux's induction as a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania. Correspondence is primarily between family, friends, and colleagues. It includes letters from Carl Milles, Bruce Moore, C.P. Jennewein, the Guild of Liturgy, Art and Design (GLAD), the Liturgical Arts Society, Inc., sculptor James Earle Fraser, offering advice on various sculpture projects, his wife Laura Gardin Fraser, a letter of congratulations from Paul Manship on the occasion of deCoux's election to the National Academy of Design, and approximately fifty letters, 1944-1952, from Anne Morrow Lindbergh, writer and wife of aviator Charles Lindbergh. There are also one or two letters from Lu Duble, Joseph Bailey Ellis, Mark Tobey, and Albert Wein.Found within the papers are a transcript of an interview of deCoux by George Gurney, and audio cassettes with transcripts of an autobiographical narrative by deCoux. Miscellaneous notes and writings include autobiographical accounts and poems by deCoux and miscellaneous writings by others. Seven of deCoux's sketchbooks and a folder of drawings by deCoux, as well as a portrait of deCoux by C. Paul Jennewein are found in the Artwork series. Project files contain letters, receipts, clippings, brochures, and photographs for sculpture projects primarily commissioned by religious organizations. Printed material includes clippings, exhibition catalogs, and miscellaneous brochures. Photographs are of deCoux, family members, friends including Anne Morrow Lindbergh and her children, colleagues including James Earle Fraser, Laura Gardin Fraser, Carl Milles, and Bruce Moore, and sculpture.

Includes incoming correspondence from Rich's mentors and colleagues, especially her two teachers, Malvina Hoffman in Paris (1933-1935) and Carl Milles at Cranbrook Academy of Art (1937-1940), as well as ephemera concerning her work and documenting the various milieus in which she created her sculpture, much of it religious or portraits. Also correspondence, photographs, and ephemera relating to her work as a recruiter and public relations person for the WAVES (the women's Naval reserves) during World War II and later at Smith College (1947-1950). Includes some papers of her mother, Irene Luther Rich.

The papers of architect, and interior designer and planner Florence Knoll Bassett, measure approximately 2.5 linear feet dating from 1932 to 2000. The collection selectively documents Knoll Bassett's education and her career at Knoll Associates, Inc. from the 1940s until her resignation in 1965, in addition to personal design projects and other activities after leaving the company. It is an important source of information on the development of interior architecture and design from the 1940s to the 1970s, chronicling the Knoll mission to synthesize space, furniture, and design by creating interiors based on practical use, comfort, and aesthetics. The collection documents the growth of Knoll's international reputation for its modern furnishings and interiors and the impact of a business philosophy that encompassed design excellence, technological innovation, and mass production. The material includes a chronology of Knoll Bassett's career; a portfolio of sketches, drawings and designs; photographs of Knoll Bassett and others; subject files containing sketches and photographic material; letters from friends, colleagues, clients and others; awards received by Knoll Bassett throughout her career; and printed material. Much of the material is annotated with historical and biographical notes written by Knoll Bassett which provide invaluable contextual information for the materials found therein. The notes are dated 1999 in the Container Listing, under the assumption that they were written by Florence Knoll Bassett as she was arranging her archival papers.
