Collection of albums filled with inscriptions to the owner from friends and relatives; many inscriptions are poems or excerpts of poems. Topics include friendship and loyalty, a desire to be remembered, praise of the album's owner, advice for personal conduct including the endurance of adversity, the beauty of nature, religious faith, and the anticipation of death. Flowers figure prominently in the poems and illustrations, and are sometimes used symbolically. Owners of albums include Mrs. Henry Adams, Harriette Austin, Ann L. Brewster, Marianne Brown, Sylvia Brown, Alzina Bruce, Caroline Bullard, Phebe Bunker, Minnie S. Canfield, Sarah Chase, Sarah Helen Chase, Mary W. Clapp, Mary Elizabeth Cole, Adeline Darrow, Angeline M. Graves, Marie Hubbard, Hattie M. Johnson, Anna R. Lawyer, Jane Lewis, Lucy A. Marshall, Anna Marstan, Darius Mathewson, Lydia Mathewson, Gratia S. Pinney, Lucy Jane Pinney, Mary Poor, Nelly Potter, Emma A. Richards, Sarah Sargeant, Emily Caroline Goodman Stearns, P. Album with title "Oberlin College autograph book" written on flyleaf (Bd. Ms. 28) includes inscriptions by C.G. Finney, G.W. Shurtleff, and E.H. Fairchild. In addition to inscriptions, albums also include illustrations cut out of printed works, autographs cut out of letters, pressed flowers, tracings of pressed flowers, newspaper clippings (mainly poems), calling cards, locks of hair, patches of cloth, and small stickers bearing romantic messages.
