The bulk of the items relate to Sellin's work with the Dept. of Social Affairs as one of the United States representatives to the United Nations program in Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (a program that continued the functions of the International Penal and Penitentiary Commission under the auspices of the United Nations from 1951 onwards). Correspondents include fellow representatives Sanford Bates and James V. Bennett, as well as United Nations Dept. of Social Affairs members Edward Galway (whom Sellin had helped find a position at the United Nations), Henri Laugier and Alva Myrdal (assistants secretary-general in charge of social affairs), A.
