Collection of anthems by British composers; copied in early 18th century. Scored for voices and basso continuo, and some works also include music for strings. Attributed composers are John Blow, Henry Purcell, Pietro Antonio Fiocco, Morgan Harris, Thomas Tudway, Christopher Tye, Thomas Tallis, Pelham Humfrey, Jeremiah Clarke, William Turner, William Lawes, John Weldon and Henry Aldrich. Aldrich's piece The beauty O Israel is modeled on Michael Wise's anthem How are the mighty fallen (Part I, p. 33-40); and his piece Full is modeled on Giovanni Pierluigi Palestrina's four-voice motet Docto bonus et amicus Dei.

Manuscript, on paper, of music copied by Gostling, consisting of 26 anthems by John Blow, Pelham Humfrey, Henry Purcell, and William Turner, and one chant by Purcell. Laid in is an additional version of the tune for Turner's O Praise the Lord. Some anthems include corrections, performance instructions, or dates of composition.
