Materials pertaining to Gardner include notes for a talk "Memories of Stanford"; typescript of his address at the dedication of Memorial Church, 1903; typescript article on the Bible, n.d.; appeal letter by Gardner laying out the idea of a convalescent home for children, 1919; letter from John C. Branner regarding the evils of smoking, 1902; typescript copies of articles on Gardner's retirement, 1936; and typescript copies of remarks at Gardner's memorial service, 1949. Other materials include letters of R. Heber Newton regarding his appointment at Stanford, 1902, and draft of a long letter to Jane Stanford regarding the conflict between them, 1903; and letters of Jane L. Stanford to Rev. W. F. Nichols, 1902, asking his aid in convincing Newton to accept position at Stanford, and to Gardner, 1904, on the importance of the church to the university.

Title: Children's Hospital at Stanford records, 1917-1977.

These records were collected by Ruth Spande Atwood, first superintentdent and administrator of the Stanford Convalescent Home (1923-1961), and include correspondence, memoranda, reports, clippings and photographs. Subjects include the history of the Home, individuals who served on Boards and assisted with fund raising, and patients. Of note are the photographs and letters of Sam McDonald. Other correspondents include Dr. Esther Clark, Dr. William F. Durand, Dr. Harold Faber, Timothy Hopkins, Ray Lyman Wilbur, and the artist Wolo (Wolo Trutzschler von Falkenstein). Collection also includes a Memory Book (1917-1977) and Scrapbook (1928-1961) largely containing photographs, with some articles and programs, on the Home, its staff and patients, special events, the artist Wolo and his murals, Ruth Spande Atwood, Sam McDonald, and Dr. David Charles Gardner.

Title: Stanford Memorial Church research materials, 1898-1982.

Collection includes articles, photocopied historical sources, notes, programs, booklets, correspondence, photographs, and a draft of her manuscript on the history of Stanford Memorial Church. Subjects include its mosaics by Salviati and Company, its stained glass windows by Frederick S. Lamb, and several of its pastors. Of note are the original "conditions of competition for Memorial Church" by Charles E. Hodges, 1898; a genealogy of the descendants of John D. McGilvray (stone mason and contractor who worked on the Church); and a typescript account by the Rev. D. Elton Trueblood of his Stanford years.
