The George B. Marshall and Family Papers consist of tax receipts; bills of sale of slaves; bills for plantation supplies; statements for medical services to family and slaves; bills for blacksmithing and other skilled work; daybooks containing blacksmithing accounts; and post-Civil War labor contracts. Papers from 1830 to 1860 are chiefly those of William H. Cureton and his wife, Mary B. Cureton. Other materials in this collection include financial papers of John Dawson; an 1815 letter to Dawson from Reuben Kemper concerning the death of Dawson's son; and two 1863 Confederate muster rolls from Company C, First Battalion, Louisiana State Cavalry. Daybooks from the Reconstruction period contain contracts and accounts for tenant farmers and laborers. An entry for 1866 records fines imposed on Negroes for breaking the peace. These fines were set by an arbitration group composed of Negroes.

Documents and related papers pertaining to the West Florida Rebellion include reports by the chairman of the convention in Baton Rouge to Governor Carlos (Charles) Dehault de Lassus, and reports by the governor to representatives of the people of West Florida; orders and reports by Colonel Philomen Thomas, commander of the Fort of Baton Rouge, to the inhabitants of West Florida. Other items include an issue of THE RECORDER (Feb. 14, 1816) containing a letter by James Monroe, Secretary of State, concerning United States' relationship with Spain in regard to the Republic of West Florida; and a printed copy of a report by the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives (1845) containing a letter (1828) by Henry Clay, Secretary of State, concerning the claim of Henry De La Francis for payment for arms and munitions of war sold to Reuben Kemper during the West Florida Rebellion.
