Title: Reports of cases, ca. 1625.

A collection of cases, being the volume signed by Turnour with a trefoil. He describes this work in HLS MS 104 as "Old booke in quarto written all with mine owne hand of divers yeares in the tyme of Queene Elizab: and also of King Jeames." The principal contents are: (a) Fuller's argument in Darcy v. Allen (1602), the case of monopolies; (b) Darnell's case (1627); (c) 'Cases escrie hors del liver Magistri Tanfield', mostly in the Common Pleas, 40 to 41 Eliz. (1598-1599) and a few earlier; (d) 'Cases escrye hors del liver Magistri Yelverton que Roger Warre a moy accomodate', Pas. 44 to Hil. 45 Eliz.; (e) 'Certain reports des cases tempore Elizabethe escrye hors del liver Magistri Roberti Browne', mostly 35 to 40 Eliz. (1593-1598); (f) Mich. 3 to Trin. 5 Jac. I (1605-1607), not in order; (g) 'Cases escry hors del liver Magistri Tanfield, 1 to 4 Jac. I (1603-1606); (h) 'Cases escry hors del liver Magistri Yelverton in queux il fuit accouncell', 1 to 3 Jac. I (1603-1605); (i) 'Cases escry hors del liver H. Calth.' begins 9 Jac. I (1611); (j) 'Hil. 11 ̊Jacobi. This case I wrott out of a booke of my lord keeper's the Lord Coventry.'

Contains an index to eight volumes of manuscript reports belonging to Turnour. Inside the cover is a table headed, 'My reports to which this booke or repertory doth referre thus marked.' (MSS. 1, 2 and 4 in this table refer to HLS MS 105-107.) Not in strict alphabetical order, but with an index of titles at the end.

The records of the John Lane Company comprise correspondence, readers' reports, manuscripts and proof copies, financial records, documents, and autobiographical materials. Series I of the John Lane Company Records comprises the correspondence and other records reflecting the activities of this firm, its officers and authors from 1856 to 1933, with the majority dating from 1894 to 1930. The correspondence is largely business-related, although the personal correspondence of John Lane is intermixed. Correspondents include Francis P. Barnard, Horace Bleackley, John Buchan, Walter Crane, Arthur Dasent, Richard and Edward Garnett, Kenneth Grahame, Constance Hill, Stephen Leacock, Vernon Lee, Richard Le Gallienne, William J. Locke, Alice and Wilfrid Meynell, Stephen Phillips, Margaret W. Roberts, Clement K. Shorter, Edward P. Stebbing, A. Francis Steuart, Frank Swettenham, Silvanus P. Thompson, Katrina Trask, William Watson, Theodore Watts-Dunton, and M. P. Willcocks. In addition to the large body of incoming correspondence, there is in the series a quantity of intramural correspondence by members of the firm covering the years 1898 to 1920. A small group of financial records and miscellaneous materials complete the series. The smaller Series II "Creative Work" embraces in the main a large number of readers' reports prepared for the firm between 1894 and 1930. There are no reports for the years 1909 to 1914 nor for 1917 to 1920, but otherwise the coverage appears comprehensive. Also present in this subseries is a small number of manuscripts by Lascelles Abercrombie, William Watson and others. Series III contains a small amount of material relating to John Lane the man. A short autobiographical sketch and notes which appear to be the beginning of a projected history of British art in India are contained in the series, along with fragments relating to Lane. As noted above, a significant amount of his personal correspondence is scattered through Series I.

"Les reportes de certein arguments et resolutions des judges in cases devaunt eux in les courts in Westminster en le temps le Roy Jacques commenseant de le 17th an de son reigne." Turnour describes this volume as "written all with mine owne hand of divers yeres of King James and King Charles." Contains select cases in King's Bench, Easter Term, 17 James I to Michaelmas Term, 7 Charles I, with several Star Chamber, Exchequer, and Chancery cases. Some of the reports are abridged in Palmer's reports. There is a full account of a session of the Court of the Verge in 1620. On the fly is a note by Turnour of the custody of the Great Seal 1621-1639; and a laudatory obituary of Thomas Baron Coventry (1578-1640). [see HLS MS 104]
