Twenty-two holograph letters of Alexander Pope, dating 1717-1742, bound with two letters written to him and a publisher's agreement related to his works. Addressed mostly from Twickenham, the letters include a number of correspondents, including Charles Bathurst, William Fortescue and Thomas Dancastle, and a number of subjects, from literary projects and piracy to gardening and Pope's health. Though some of the letters were included in Sherborn's Correspondence and in earlier publications, they were not fully or accurately transcribed until their publication by Maynard Mack in 1982. The last document in the volume - not published by Mack - is an agreement dated 1756 in which the publisher John Knapton assigns half his rights to Pope's work to Andrew Millar, another publisher.
