Papers of Rev. James Howard Means, pastor of the Second Church of Dorchester, Mass., include a journal of vacations taken in the United States; a diary and scrapbook of engravings of a trip to England in 1856; and sermons written and delivered by Means between 1860 and 1880. Also contains Farnsworth family materials, including a genealogy and essays on the ancestry of Alice Farnsworth, written by Henry Ainsworth Parker; "Family tales recorded by Sarah F. Bremer" (1939) with references to her Farnsworth ancestry; and a journal of Ezra Farnsworth (1813-1890) of a trip to Europe in 1877-78. The Means and Farnsworth families were related through the marriage of J.H. Means and Helen Goodell Farnsworth.
