Title: Fones Wilbur diary, 1855-1866.

Manuscript diary of a farmer, carpenter, businessman, school teacher, and temperance activitist in the Silverton, Or., area. Entries document Fones Wilbur's business, carpentry, farming, and political activities, as well as his active participation in the Sons of Temperance. Wilbur's daily entries from 1855-1866 also document the lives of his neighbors and the interdependence of early settlers in Oregon. He notes his purchases, prices, and weather information. The suede leather-bound volume imprinted with "F. Wilbur" on the cover started life as a ledger, 1840-1841, Saratoga, N.Y. , but many of these pages were removed. Someone later used the pages as a scrapbook in which to paste newspaper clippings. Some clippings were removed at some point, but part of the diary pages are obscured.
