Title: A testimony to the Nation : Buffalo, New York, 1850 Apr 6.

Holograph "testimony" with annotations and changes, to the President of the United States and members of Congress from Strang, George J. Adams and William Marks. In the testimony Strang describes the history of the persecution of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,including the murder of Joseph Smith and other members, and their expulsion from lands in Illinois and Missouri that they purchased from the government. In retribution for the crimes committed against them, Strang asks that the Saints be given all the uninhabited land on the islands in Lake Michigan and that the Government cease to sell the land to other persons. In addition, he appeals to the government to condemn and punish their persecutors. The testimony is signed by Strang and dated at Buffalo, New York, 1850 Apr 6.

McKenzie, Abraham K. Diary, 1865.

Title: Diary, 1865.

A diary kept by Abraham K. McKenzie, a businessman from Indian River, Maine, of a trip he made to Palestine with George J. Adams in 1865. Adams subsequently led an effort to establish a millenarian community of Americans in Palestine, sailing with 156 members of the Church of the Messiah from Boston to Jaffa in 1866. The group was known as the Jaffa Colony or the Palestine Emigration Association. By 1867 the colony had failed and most members had returned to the United States.

The collection consists of manuscripts relating to Strang's conversion to Mormonism, his relations with the Nauvoo church, his personal writings, and correspondence. The papers include accounts, drafts of patriarchal blessings, plan and diagrams for the Voree Temple, notes for sermons, lectures, debates, and material regarding the establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ (Strangite), the Order of the Illuminati, the Associated Order of Enoch, and the Kingdom of St. James. Notes and correspondence collected by Milo M. Quaife while working on The Kingdom of Saint James have been added to the papers.
