Born in Hamilton County, Ohio, son of William Henrie and Myra Mayall. Early life; interest in religion at a young age; regular attendance at camp meetings and revivals; conversion to Mormonism with his family in 1841; subsequent move to Nauvoo, Illinois; father's frequent wrestling with Joseph Smith; impressions of the Mormon leader; mantle of the Prophet upon Brigham Young; exodus west; activities in Winter Quarters, Nebraska; experiences on the plains; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 1849; settlement at Sessions, (south Bountiful) Utah; marriage to Rhoana Hutch, 1850; call to go to Fort Hall, Oregon, 1853, to get merchandise and equipment which the Church purchased from an English fur company; call to Manti, Utah to strengthen the settlement against Indian attacks, 1853; construction of the first grist mill in Davis County; generous contributions to others and the Church; entrance into the order of plural marriage, 1861; call to aid in the settlement of Panaca, Nevada, and pioneer experiences there; opposition of the Pioche miners to the Panaca settlement causing it to be disbanded in 1871; call to settle at Panguitch, Utah; appointment as the first president of the LDS Panguitch Stake, 1877; ordination as a patriarch in 1882; removal of his third wife to Fredonia, Arizona due to anti-polygamy raids; establishment of the first grist mill and saw mill of Panguitch; the purchase of children from the Indians.
