Summary: Photographs, by Ben Maxey, of Tucson architecture, fashion and portraits from the 1950s to 1970. Images of Tucson include the Casas Adobes Plaza, Sam Nanini's home and the Nanini Financial Center, a beauty shop interior, St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church, Tucson Inn, and the Tucson National Golf club. There are photographs of fashion models, including one posed with a 1960s portable record player, and photographs for tourism promotion, taken for the Sunshine Climate Club, of models posed with cactus and by swimming pools. There are a few of the "High Chapparal" set filming at Old Tucson. Portraits include Barry Goldwater, Ted De Grazia, C.S. Paola, Gerry Peirce, Ray Strang, and Fred Harman.

Title: Western Ways Features Service Records, 1930-1979 (bulk 1930-1965).

Correspondence, manuscripts, ephemera and legal records chiefly relating to the creation of feature stories about tourism in Arizona, Mexico, and the western U.S. and other general interest topics. Manuscripts are mostly typescripts of stories; also some field notes, and film scenarios for documentary films and shorts. Ephemeral materials include tourist pamphlets, maps, and promotional materials distributed by local governments, businesses, and chambers of commerce from the late 1930s to the late 1960s. The legal records, from 1959 to 1976, concern the Buena Vista Land Fraud in which the Herberts were investors. Correspondents include Raymond Carlson, as editor of Arizona Highways magazine; the Camera Press Agency in London, an affiliate of Western Ways; Barry Goldwater; Roy Drachman; and Ray Manley.

Summary: Along with MS 1056, this collection contains the photographs and articles produced by the Western Ways Features Service from 1940 and to about 1970, along with earlier records from the Herbert's newsreel projects prior to establishment of Western Ways. The Western Ways material mostly concerns Arizona but their focus was Western North America; so the West including Sonora, Mexico; Montana; and the Yellowstone National Park were also heavily photographed. There are advertising photographs for Chevrolet and Ford; images of WW offices; image of photographers at work on location including images of a tour of photographers at the Navajo Reservation. There are images of prominent and less-known people including Ted DeGrazia, Thomas Edison, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louise Serpa, Will Rogers, Jr., Gen. George C. Marshall, Mao Tse-tung, Chiang Kai-skek, and many images of North American Indians particularly Apache, Navajo and Tohono O'odham. There are images of southern Arizona towns including Douglas, Elgin, Oracle, Nogales, Patagonia, Sonoita, Tucson, and others. There are images of homes, businesses, landmarks and more in Tucson, Ariz. There are many photographs based on topics such as agriculture, cattle, art, home construction, ranches and guest ranches, national parks and monuments, and schools.
