"In front of the main south door of the Boulder County courthouse in Colorado, an intricately designed flagstone sidewalk can be found. It contains five-pointed stars, diamond shapes, fleurs de-lis, Art Deco motifs, and many other ornate features. It extends for over a hundred feet, past the fountain, to the Pearl Street pedestrian mall. Who designed it, when it was constructed, and under what political circumstances it was accomplished, have been questions not easy to answer, as the story of the flagstone sidewalk has never before been officially documented as an item of historical interest. And yet, it is a fine example of a little-used style of flagstone mosaic craftsmanship and its creator deserves some long overdue recognition. This monograph, the result of seventeen years of interest, documents the archival answers to these questions and uncovers an interesting story of Masonic symbolism and Boulder politics in the mid-1930s."
