This collection contains an account book and a docket book for the Suffolk County Court of Common Pleas. The account book, for the period 1783 to 1790, was kept by Ezekiel Price (1727-1802) who served for twenty years as clerk of the court and chairman of the Board of Selectmen for Boston. The volume is a record of fees paid by attorneys for their clients for various purposes (e.g., appeals, entries, continuances, tax bills, and writs). The volume is organized into a list of attorneys with a chronological record of each of their cases, fees accrued, and date of settlement. Attorneys listed include Fisher Ames (1758-1808) and Benjamin Lincoln (1733-1810). The docket book, for the period 1810 to 1813, was probably kept by clerk John Tucker ( - ) and contains a list of the plaintiffs and defendants, the constables involved and any court orders issued (e.g., bail, summons), nature of the offense (e.g., debt, trespassing, divorce, adultery), the dates of execution and return of the initial court order, and the date and nature of the final disposition, such as the defendant's method payment of court cases listed chronologically. Several individuals involved in the suits are Daniel Waldo Lincoln (1784-1815) and Alexander Wolcott (1758-1828).
