This microfilm collection of William Arthur Cooper papers contains biographical materials; correspondence conerning portrait commisions, art lectures, and exhibitions; financial records including account books and receipts; notes and a report concerning Cooper's "good will" tour; Cooper's publication <emph render="italic">Educating Through Fine Arts</emph>, and his book <emph render="italic">A Portrayal of Negro Life</emph> (1936), as well as documents related to the book including proposed plans, sales records and draft typescript, which contains portraits not included in final version. Also included are price lists for works of art; printed material including exhibition catalogs, clippings, and <emph render="italic">ABCs of Great Negroes</emph> by Charles C. Dawson; and photographs depicting Cooper, his friends and church members, and his works of art.

Title: Charles C. Dawson papers

This microfilm collection of the papers of African American artist and museum curator Charles C. Dawson dates from 1910 to 1980. It includes biographical material; a 536 page draft of an autobiography; and correspondence. Correspondence includes United States Infantry correspondence and records, 1912-1923; general correspondence, 1917-1980; correspondence and financial records dealing with Dawson's book <emph render="italic">ABCs of Great Negroes</emph>, 1932-1945; and drafts and fragments of letters written by Dawson. Also included in the collection are miscellaneous business and financial records; writings and notes, including rough drafts, notes, and typescripts; printed material inclduing news releases, newsletters, program notices, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous published items; and photographs of Dawson, his family, friends, and others.
