Title: George R. Shaw sketchbook, 1886-1887.

Sketchbook kept by juror George R. Shaw while observing two trials in the Suffolk County Superior Court, 1 Jan. - 4 Feb. 1887. Shaw sketched the judge, lawyers, clerk, witnesses, and other participants during the civil trials of Solomon H. Dyer vs. John N. Kimball for "alienation of wife's affection"; and Mary D. Cole vs. the City of Boston for injuries incurred during a fall on an icy city street. A few of the sketches include quotes from the trial. Also includes Shaw's jury duty notice, 20 December 1886.

Horticulturist and resident of Wellesley, Mass. Letters received by Shaw and his wife from their children in Paris, containing news of their personal and professional activities. The children include Francis George Shaw, who was engaged in the harvesting machinery business; Isabel Pelham Shaw, who was studying piano under Harold Bauer; and Thomas Mott Shaw, an artist who was studying architecture at the Beaux Arts. Also includes an account book of architectural commissions of Shaw, architect, in association with his brother Robert Gould Shaw (1850-1931); and diaries and sketchbooks kept by Shaw and his wife Emily Mott Shaw during a fishing trip to Nova Scotia in 1890-91.
