Papers span two generations of the Case family and consist of personal correspondence (1857-1922), biographical information (1860-1933), photographs (1890, 1897, 1941), miscellaneous record books, and numerous articles, reminiscences, and sketches about pioneer settlers of the Nininger and Hastings, Dakota County, Minnesota, area. The bulk of the collection consists of John H. Case's articles, reminiscent accounts, and biographies of pioneer Dakota County families. Topics include the 1862 Dakota Conflict, trading posts, Grey Cloud Island, Chief Medicine Bottle (Wa-Kan'-O-Zan-Zan), construction of the Redwood and Yellow Medicine agencies, and a history of Nininger, Minnesota. Miscellaneous record books include account, memorandum, schedule, and time books and a large scrapbook containing newspaper clippings, printed materials, and more biographical sketches.

Title: Extraditions and requisitions files, 1845-1847.

The governor is the chief executive of the state whose function is to administer the laws of the state. One of the activities used to accomplish this function is the extraditing of criminals. This process may also be referred to as requisition and involves either a request from the Governor of Alabama for the return of criminals who have escaped to other states or a request to the Governor of Alabama for the extradition of criminals found in Alabama. This series consists of correspondence, petitions, and legal documents. Most of the items give details of the crime, the criminal, and the circumstances of the extradition request. The series contains extradition requests from the governors of Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, and Virginia. The crimes include horse stealing, larceny, and murder. The most prominent case in the series involved the murder in 1846 Sept. of Charles G. Justice in St. Clair County. The suspect, William Oliver, fled the state, and Governor Martin received numerous requests for his capture.

Papers collected and arranged by Lyman Draper preparatory to writing a series of sketches on border warfare. Though the earlier Indian wars are briefly considered, the larger portion of the material deals with wars waged in the Northwest (1788-1795) and with Western operations during the War of 1812. The papers include several significant series of original documents and journals of participants in the campaigns. Present is the manuscript original of General Dearborn's defense against the charges of General Hull in relation to the Detroit surrender; papers of Richard Butler, Josiah Harmar, Absolom Baird, James Winchester, Charles S. Todd, Benjamin Whiteman, Nathan Heald, Joseph Martin, Daniel Smith, and others; and much information on Indian treaties and their negotiation.

Orders the Quarter Master General to pay for "one thousand and sixty seven bushels corn gathered from my field at Lower Sandusky for the use of the United States per certificate of Wm. Ingersol Forage Master and of General Perkins ... @ 75 cents per bushel, $800.25". The amount was received at "Camp Seneca September 8th, 1813 of John C. Bartlet, Quarter Master General ..." and was signed by Paul D. Butler and witnessed by William Oliver. Signed during the War of 1812, when William Henry Harrison was Brigadier General, Commander of the North Western Army of the United States.
