Title: Philip Wainwright scrapbook, 1799-1897.

Items removed from a scrapbook dated 1897 by Philip Wainwright of Hartford, Connecticut. None of the items had been affixed to the pages. Includes historic family papers, recent event programs, and newspaper clippings. The newspaper clippings (several are duplicates) relate mostly to the Stanley, Talcott, Jones, and Wainwright families and their history. There are two event programs and two lists of old-time relics from the Mary Washington Reception & Tea Party in 1875. Other unique pieces include a recipe for cooking a calve's head, and printed memorials to Sarah M. Brainard and Helen Talcott (the latter written by Lydia Huntley Sigourney). The family pieces comprise an inventory of the estate of Helen Talcott (sister of Samuel Austin), Matthew Talcott's appointments as a Midshipman (signed by John Adams) and as a solicitor in New York, and Thomas G. Talcott's appointment as a member of the New York Superior Court. Mary E. Stanley married Samuel Austin Talcott. Their son, Thomas Grosvenor Talcott, married Sarah A. Jones, the daughter of William H. Jones and sister of Harriet Jones Crawford. Thomas and Sarah Talcott's daughter, Helena Talcott, married W.A.M. Wainwright. Philip Wainwright was their son. All of these people are mentioned in assorted pieces of the collection.
