Paul Revere Frothingham (1864-1926) graduated from Harvard College in 1886 with an AM degree and in 1889 with an STB degree. He served as pastor of the First Congregational Society of New Bedford, Massachusetts, from 1889 to 1900 and the Arlington Street Church (Unitarian) in Boston from 1900 to 1926. Rev. Frothingham served as a preacher of Harvard for sixteen years and served the school as an overseer from 1904 to 1910, and again from 1918 to 1924. His wife, Anna Clapp Frothingham, established the Harvard College scholarship bearing his name in 1940 "to be held as a fund in memory of my late husband." The scholarship is awarded annually to "that member of the senior class in Harvard College who...best exemplifies the qualities of excellent scholarship, manliness [character], and effective support of the best interests of Harvard University."

Title:
Nathaniel L. Frothingham diary, 1826-1907; 1826-1827.
Diary of Unitarian Minister Rev. Nathaniel L. Frothingham, kept from August 1826-July 1827 while touring Europe. Enclosed within the diary are letters that are probably written by the Marquis de Lafayette and a letter to Frothingham's father-in-law, Peter Chardon Brooks. The diary also contains notes, pictures and drawings, his passport, and detailed letters to his wife Ann (referred to as Anne in the letters) written from Paris, Geneva, Milan, Venice, Rome, London, Edinburgh, and other locations. The diary reflects Frothingham's experiences with nature, art and architecture; his thoughts on culture and religion; and his relationship with his wife. In addition to the diary there are letters written to Rev. Paul Revere Frothingham, grandson of Nathaniel Frothingham, in 1907 regarding possible publication of the diary.
