Papers include correspondence, appointment books, and other materials documenting the personal life of Christian William (aka Bill) Miller. The collection dates from 1943 to 1995, with the bulk dating from the early 1940s through the 1960s, during which time Miller lived in New York City. There are letters from Herbert Bayer, Paul Cadmus, Noel Coward, Katherine Dreier, Alfred C. Kinsey and the Alfred C. Kinsey Institute for Sex Research, the Museum of Modern Art, Cesare Pavani, a stage director for filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni, Hershel Carey Walker, Glenway Wescott, Monroe Wheeler, and others. Correspondence with Walker, the largest file with over 200 items, dates from 1948 to 1971 and includes incoming and outgoing correspondence. Letters from Cadmus span over fifty years, from 1943 to 1995, and include original drawings. Correspondence with Alfred C. Kinsey and other members of the Institute for Sex Research, which includes carbons of outgoing letters, discuss Kinsey's research project on human sexuality, Miller's participation in the project, his sexuality and sexual behavior, recommendations of others who might be interested in the project, and gifts to the institute. Appointment books document activities between 1944 to 1969 and mention Paul Cadmus, Hershel Carey Walker, Glenway Wescott, and Monroe Wheeler, as well as W. H. Auden, Cecil Beaton, Christopher Isherwood, Stephen Spender, Gore Vidal, and others. The books serve as diaries, and include entries on sexual activities using the Kinsey institute codes. Other materials include drafts of writings, financial records, photographs, and clippings and printed ephemera. There are three holograph manuscripts by Jean Genet, entitled "Boule de Neige", "L'Enfant Soleil", and "Solennel Enfant Soleil." Photographs include Miller, Glenway Wescott, Monroe Wheeler, Hershel Carey Walker, and others.

Consists of biographical material, correspondence, subject files, financial documents, publications, scrapbooks, ledgers, newspaper clippings, a movie, and photographs. Includes information pertaining to the Container Corporation of America, a business founded by Walter Paepcke in 1926. In addition to materials that refer to Paepcke's paperboard container business, the papers also document some of his philanthropic, cultural, and educational interests. Included among them is the Goethe Bicentennial Foundation, which organized a festival in 1949 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Included among Paepcke's other cultural and educational activities are materials relating to the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies. The AIHS, founded in 1950, became an intellectual and cultural center of continuing education that provided seminars, lectures, and forums conducted by leaders in commerce, industry, science, education, religion, and government.

A collection of printing published by the Bauhaus from 1919 to 1933, designed by Bauhaus teachers and students for internal school purposes and for outside commercial use, as well as other printing relating to the Bauhaus. The collection comprises a wide variety of printed matter, from ephemeral publications to whole issues of periodicals and exhibition catalogs, which are exemplary of what became identified as Bauhaus style typography and design. Most items were designed by Herbert Bayer, László Moholy-Nagy, Oskar Schlemmer, and Joost Schmidt. Other designers represented in this collection include Josef Albers, Erich Comeriner, Lyonel Feininger, Paul Häberer, Dörte Helm, and Xanti Schawinsky.

Correspondence between Jan Tschichold and his wife, Edith, and a number of artists, many of them figures associated with the Bauhaus, together with materials reflecting Jan Tschichold's career as a typographer and graphic designer. The collection includes letters, postcards, decorated envelopes, published books, sample graphic and printed works, flyers, menus, and invitations. Also included are newspaper and magazine clippings documenting the artists and their work. A significant amount of material relates to El Lissitzky, including letters and postcards from El Lissitzky and his wife, Sophie Lissitzky-Küppers; photographs and prints; typographic designs for books and advertisements; printed books and articles by El Lissitzky as well as articles by Tschichold and others about El Lissitzky; and material relating to exhibitions of El Lissitzky's work. Large portions of the collection are also devoted to Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Kurt Schwitters, including correspondence, works by these artists, publications by and about them, clippings, and other printed ephemera. Collection consists primarily of letters received from more than 1,000 correspondents, dating from ca. 1911-1965. The correspondence is of a personal, intellectual and business nature, and reflects a wide range of correspondents, including colleagues and fellow students, critics, editors, gallery owners and curators throughout Germany, but also notably in France and the United States. Letters contain thanks and complaints concerning his criticism, and requests for reviews, catalog statements, photos, introductions and articles. Discussed throughout the collection are exhibitions and publications, including the following works of Roh: "Streit um die Moderne Kunst," "Hollaendischen Malerei," "Art of the 20th century," "Photo-Auge," and "Die Kunst und das schoene Heim." There is little material extant for the Nazi period and the war years, but there is extensive discussion of de-Nazification and of the personal history of correspondents during the Nazi era.
