The bulk of the collection runs from 1892 to 1904. Most titles are incomplete, with the exception of those created by Radius himself, THE NEWSBOY and THE HIGH SCHOOL TIMES. Only two publications (single issues) are later, THE NATIONAL AMATEUR (1930) and AMATEUR AFFAIRS (1932). The miscellaneous ephemera folder (box 2) includes a mailing list, organization list, and clippings about the death of Alva Porter Moore. The organization folders include announcements, press coverage, meeting notes, etc.

National Amateur Press Association membership bundles, 1969-2012

Title: National Amateur Press Association membership bundles 1969-2012

The National Amateur Press Association first met in 1876, and is considered the oldest Amateur Press group in the world. The organization is founded in the tradition of letterpress printing, but also encompasses the associated arts of writing, editing, publishing, and illustration as they pertain to amateur journalism. "Bundles" are mailed each month to all members, containing the work of printers, as well as writers and poets, who may or may not print their own material. This collection contains portions of these monthly bundles from 1969-2012.

Smith, Burton Jay. Papers of Burton Jay Smith and Willametta Turnepseed, 1941-1944.

Title: Papers of Burton Jay Smith and Willametta Turnepseed, 1941-1944.

The collection consists mainly of correspondence between Smith and Turnepseed. A few additional pieces of correspondence to or from either Smith or Turnepseed are also present. There are also several issues of Literary Newsette, the amateur publication that the two co-edited. The collection has one undated photograph, which may depict Smith. A few sample envelopes from the correspondence are also included. Smith and Turnepseed were engaged to be married, and most of their correspondence consists of love letters. The letters chiefly concern their romantic feelings towards each other and their post-marriage domestic plans. The correspondence also contain numerous references to their amateur printing endeavors, including Turnepseed's tenure as President of the National Amateur Printing Association (NAPA) in 1944. Once Smith was inducted into the United States Army Air Forces in January 1943, his letters, written from his postings at different airfields, also describe his flight and navigation training and the military life. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
